'peace camp'

// home

the faslane peace camp is situated outside the gates of the faslane naval base, which is home to afleet of trident nuclear-armed submarines on the firth of clyde in scotland. the camp provided support for ‘faslane 365’, which was a year long anti-nuclear civil resistance project that began in september 2006. it has however, been continuously occupied by peace activists from all over the world since 1982. some members of the community are transient, staying only for a short time, others have made this colourful assortment of old buses, caravans, huts, tents and tree houses their home.

i have deliberately chosen not to document the inhabitants, but to instead illustrate the presence and character of this alternative community through photographing their environment and the intimate spaces where they live and work in the interest of resistance and dedication to nuclear protest.

all the handwritten text within the book has been extracted from the communal peace camp diary and minutes book. i would like to thank the residents of the faslane peace camp for allowing me to use the original documents.
